Andrew started playing the piano at a young age. His mother was a music teacher and taught him how to play Gershwin, Ragtime and other classic American music. Together, they performed at local senior centers, sharing the joy of music with the elderly.
Andrew graduated from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University with a degree in piano performance. He studied jazz piano with Kenny Barron, an icon of jazz, considered one of the most influential jazz pianists.
By his senior year, Andrew had switched to classical piano and won a Young Artists competition performing Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto with orchestra. Andrew went on to play in funk and soul bands, performed regularly as a Jazz pianist, and worked in Los Angeles recording studios as a session musician, synthesist, engineer and producer.
In recent years, Andrew has continued producing music in his Ithaca NY studio and performs regularly at clubs, weddings and special events. He specializes in New Orleans piano styles such as Dr John and Professor Longhair, as well as Stride/Swing piano, Boogie-woogie, RnB, Funk and Pop.
Andrew’s teaching methods focus on learning how to practice effectively to gain quick results. Recognizing that each student has different needs and learning styles, Andrew draws from a wide range of influences to help others cultivate a love for playing music.
